I have a program (Fireworks) that files can't "open with". Here's a screencast to demonstrate: http://screencast.com/t/Mzg3YjE2

I "browse" to select the program, and nothing happens. It just won't show up in the "open with" window (or menu) at all. It makes it completely impossible to open any files with Fireworks from explorer.

I've tried reinstalling Fireworks. Any other ideas?

Adobe's quality is not what it used to be and it used to be bad. Now it's worse. They never quite understood Windows and now they've lost their old buddy Apple as a pal.

The problem is that Adobe simply doesn't know how to write software for Microsoft Windows correctly. They haven't got the hang of something as simple as file associations after so many years selling dicey software and collecting ridiculous sums for the sale thereof.

Please see this from their "support" forums -- manual registry changes that you have to make: Adobe Forums: Photoshop CS4 file associations (Vista)... Don't hold your breath for a patch.

Thanks, baarod. That solved it. I just had to edit that Fireworks registry entry to point to the CS5 version. I previously has CS4 installed, and it was still pointing to that.
