Can't read grayed out boxes

I apologize if I'm in the wrong forum; I don't know if the subject should be Word or Windows so I'm in Gen Discussion. I've attached a shot of the little boxes that are grayed out we click on such as OK, etc. which I can't read to best explain this. I've gone into Metrics many times to see if changing the font color could fix it, with no success.
I can't remember if this started when I installed Word 2010, if it is a Word issue. Thanks very much for any ideas you all may have, and again, sorry if I'm in the wrong forum. ec

Is this a word form document? Maybe it is protected.

Right click on you desktop in an empty space, click Personalization|Window color. In that window Adavnced Properties, you will find options for changing font colors, among other settings realting to appearance.
I can't open a .docx since I don't have Word2007 or later.
