Can't Reconnet Network Drives

I'm having an issue reconnecting my network drives on my HP laptop running Windows 7.

I have a Thecus N4100 Pro NAS. I've mapped the drives with the option to reconnect at start up. I've put in my credentials and clicked the option to save credentials. However, when I reboot, I see the error, "Unable to reconnect network drives."

When I go to my Computer, I can see the drives and they are disconnected.

When I double click them, the credentials login screen comes up. I put in the same credentials I did as when I created them, select the option to save the credentials, and they do reconnect. They stay until I reboot the laptop and they go away again.

I've followed the same procedure on my desktop and the links work fine, even after a reboot.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

This has been a Problem with Windows 7, it in my opinion does not connect the drives unless the server is up and running

Unless the server is up and running?

My NAS is always up and running.

Not sure I understand.

Are you mapping to a specific folder on the NAS device? or simply to a drive?

net use * /delete those drive mappings. Reboot, map 'Folders' with "everyone" group with modify rights on the 'folder'. [x] check reconnect at log on. Reboot. See if that helps first... then we'll work on the drives.

My issue is not with mapping the drives, it's with keeping them mapped after a reboot.

so did you try what I mentioned above?

Not yet, I'm not in front of my home machines right now, but I'll try it when I get home.

But I will admit, your process is a little cryptic to me.

"net use * /delete those drive mappings. Reboot, map 'Folders' with "everyone" group with modify rights on the 'folder'. [x] check reconnect at log on. Reboot. See if that helps first... then we'll work on the drives."

I think you're asking me to kill the drive mappings via command line. Why not withing the GUI?

Map 'Folders' with everyone? What folder? and how do you map with everyone?

Can you please be a little more specific?

Thanks!

Sorry for that, I'll clarify. Net use * /delete does remove your mapped drives through command line. this is simply the way that I am used to doing it. If you want, please remove them via GUI, if you get an error, please try through command prompt. Map folders with everyone with modify means: The folder or drive that you are mapping to: example \\servername\share The "share" part of that sequence is the either the folder or drive you are trying to map to. This folder or drive needs to have the "everyone" group added to the access list located on the "security" tab under properties. That "everyone" group must be added with full control or modify rights to those folders. To add the everyone group, you right click on the folder or drive and select the "security" tab. You click Add, then type in "everyone" then click "check names". the everyone group should underline. click ok. Then click the check box next to full control. then click ok.

I realize this thread is old, but hopefully it will help someone else.

I'm willing to bet that your userID in Windows 7 is the same userID setup on your NAS device. If that's the case, try creating a different userID on the NAS.

Windows 7 defaults back to CPUNAME\USER at startup when reconnecting the drives. When it passes the CPUNAME\USER to the NAS device, the NAS rejects it.
