My laptop won't boot correctly. It says windows is loading files then always ends up with just a black screen and a cursor. Not being incredibly good with computers myself, I took my laptop to someone who is and they told me that windows was corrupted. This was after trying in just about every way possible to get it to boot and failing. I tried to reinstall windows with the partition and I couldn't get it to do that. I was told that the hard drive was also corrupted. So I tried to reinstall it from the disk. It says to insert boot media and press any key, which I did, but it doesn't take me to the window where I select a language. It just goes right to windows is loading files then a black screen with a cursor. I can't get anywhere else. I would like to try to fix this myself but I can't find anything else to try. I decided to post a new thread after reading most of the other ones related to this topic and failing to find a solution.

Have you tried another Installation CD or media? What about formatting the HDD first which requires you to get into DOS or a third party program. Hiren CD has the programs to do this.

I'm using the recovery disks that I got from Toshiba. For some reason I got two, and I've tried both with the same result. I've managed to enter the boot manager, but it doesn't have option to boot from a CD/DVD.

Have you tried to repair Win7 using the Repair CD which you should have on hand for this purpose? System Repair Disc - Create It will require finding a Win7 computer for your same 32 or 64 bit version to make one. You may want to instead download the Win7 DVD ISO to burn to DVD or write to Flash stick, as this can be used for both reinstall and repairs. I would try running Startup Repair a few times from disk before giving up on your installation.

What exactly does it say on the Toshiba disks? You want to place Recovery Disk 1 in the drive, restart the computer and tap the F12 key to get a BIOS Boot Menu, select CD/DVD drive to boot then see if it will load. It may prompt you for a second disk if it didn't all fit on a DVD.

You can also try running Toshiba Recovery from its HD partition this way: Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility

Or download the Win7 Installation DVD ISO and burn it to DVD or write to flash stick using this tool: Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool

Again reboot with DVD in drive, pressing F12 key every second firmly, select DVD drive to boot, Follow these steps to clean reinstall: Reinstalling Windows 7

If this fails enter BIOS setup to see if HD is recognized. If so, boot the HD's maker's diagnostic/Repair extended CD scan to test and/or repair the HD: HD Diagnostic

Report back results so we can help you further.

I've managed to enter the boot menu, but it doesn't have the option to boot from the disk.

I believe I have the right disks; they say toshiba recovery media, satellite P750 series, windows 7 home premium SP 1 64-bit. Like I said, I have two sets, and both of them do this.

I may try the other options gregrocker mentioned, but those will have to wait until I can access another computer.
