Solved Can't remove update files

I have a directory called ff8173b3b282fb3580420d937a9858c3 on my external drive that is locked down tight. I managed to reset permission so I could at least see what is in the directory and it appears to be an install or update for .NET 4.0. I can't look at the subdirectories or open any of the files in ff8173b3b282fb3580420d937a9858c3. I am admin for the system, but even administrator does not have any rights to these files. The only permissions set are "Special Permissions" for the System. I tried to reset permissions so child objects would inherit from the parent object but when I checked that box and clicked Apply I got a Permission denied message for every subdirectory, which are called 1024, 1025, 1029 and so on, if that matters.

This directory/path is taking up valuable space on my external drive and I need to remove it.
ANy ideas how I can do that?
Again, I am administrator for the system and the only user account on the system is my account.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome Ute. Try to Take Ownership of the file.
Or enable the Hidden Admin Account.

just wanted to let you know that your suggestion worked great!

Once I added the "Take Ownership" option to the menu, I changed the owner of the file to me and the rest was a breeze.
