Solved Can't rename a library

Alright so I'm new to the forums here, and I tried searching through the forums as well as searching online for a solution but I haven't found any usable information on my issue.

For some reason unknown to me, I cannot name a library to "Movies." It used to be named Movies, and then something happened and it defaulted back to Videos. When I went to change the name back to Movies, it just automatically switches it back to Videos again. Anything else seems to be OK, things such as "Movie" or "Moviez" However its quite annoying that I simply can't use Movies. Its the only one I am having issues with. Also, I've tried restoring the defaults and it didn't help.

I know this isn't a terribly critical issue but its really frustrating and I can't believe I'm the only one who has had this issue (aka I'm hoping someone has a solution). This is the second time I've had this issue, and last time I never solved it. I ended up doing a fresh install a month or so ago and for some reason I'm having the issue again.

Are you able to create a new library name "Movies" instead?

No, and when I try to it says there is already a library with the named "Movies" but it doesn't show up anywhere

Double check to see if you may have a hidded Movies library folder by setting to show hidden files, folders, and drives.

You might see if you may be able to rename "Videos" to something else, then rename it to "Movies" to see if that may work.

Yeah I've tried both of those to no avail, I just have no idea what the issue could be and I really don't want to reinstall windows for something silly like this but its come to a point where I might because its really pissing me off hahaha

As a test, create a new administrator account and see if you are able to do so in it. If so, then you could just copy over the files from the old user account into the same locations in the new user account. After everything checks out ok in the the new user acccount, you could just delete the old account.

The only thing I've found on google that was at all related to my issue was this thread

but there was no responses as to whether it worked and I didn't want to risk trying it without first asking what that file in question is for. Could this be a solution? I'm just really surprised that this is the second time its happened to me, but it doesn't appear to be very common haha

That would be a good suggestion to try to see if you may be able to rename it afterwards.

annnddddd now I can't even find that file... Is it possible it wouldn't exist on my PC? I'm in the correct location and have done a windows search of my C: drive and it came up empty.

Did you do step 4 in OPTION ONE of the tutorial below first to be able to see the Desktop.ini file at that location?

well I thought I did but apparently I missed the check box

So just to confirm, I am OK to delete this? Do I need to back it up first or anything? Do I risk damage/loosing data or settings?

Great news. Sorry for the late reply.

Yes, it will be fine to delete it. You will not lose anything by doing so. To be extra safe, you could leave the file in the Recycle Bin for now. This way if some unknown issue happens from deleting it, you can easily restore it from with the Recycle Bin.
