My network folders are actually hard drives. When the network was setup, only the drive letters appear [without the volume descriptive information]. I've been unable to rename these folders. Can anyone help? Thanks.

You need to rename the share name on the computer they are actually on. For instance, mine are called Dell_C, Dell_D, Dell_D, etc., an that's how they show up when I browse them from my other computer.

So the question is, how do you rename them? I see the computers in the network on Windows Explorer. When I click my computer [in the network], the hard drives I've chosen to share all appear as shared folders. But whereas each of those hard drives has a Windows-assigned drive letter + descriptive term [for example, "D: Movies"] in the navigation pane under "Computer," each appears as only the drive letter when the computer is clicked in the navigation pane under "Network."

Right clicking on any of the drives will give you Properties in the context menu, but there is no option to rename them in Properties.

The renaming has to be done on the sharing system, in the share dialog, not in the system reading the shares :)

You need to be logged onto the system the hard drives are on.

Open My Computer and right click on each hard drive in turn, one at a time and do the following:

Select Sharing and Security.
Uncheck Share this folder on the network then click Apply. You can't change the name once it's setup, you need to delete it and setup a new one.

This will remove the existing share. Now setup a new one.

Click on the link labeled If you understand the risk but still want to share .....
Check Share this folder on the network
Enter the name you want in the Share name: box then click Apply

That's it. You should now see the new names in your Network Folders. You may have to refresh them firest (View / Refresh or press F5).
