Solved Cant repair an aborted windows 7 install

Hello,
I decided to give my acer aspire 5515 to my stepson, so i was reinstalling windows 7 on it and it accidently aborted before finishing installing. Now when I put my disc in it doesn't read it and never repairs it, never completes it, just keeps rebootiing. I have tried set up default settings, system repair, but nothing [COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue !important]works[/COLOR][/COLOR]. Please help. My drive is just making a whirring sound but never booting, but really it has always done that and would always eventually kick in, but not this time. I had an xp start up disc on a cd-r and it read that, but not my iso on a dvd-r.

i also did try to change the boot menu and still not working, I've used other versions of windows to try to force it still no go. If i could just reset back to factory with vista installed, that would be great, but for some reason alt+f10 and f9 are not working either.

If you have access to another machine you could try creating a bootable flash drive, boot from that and use it to repair/re-install OS

nope didn't work, all I put on the flash drive is the setup.exe which, it lit up but nothing different. I can see the windows install background and its says setting start up configuration but still nothing, just reboots.

To do this you need to download usb tool and use it to create a bootable flash drive with your win7 iso (takes about 10/20 mins to create) then boot your machine from it.

Follow these steps to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Download the latest installer ISO with SP1 and write to flash with tool provided in Steps 1 and 2. Then set HD to boot first in BIOS setup, use Acer F12 key to boot flash under USB, Removable or HD's.

Try wiping the HD with Diskpart Clean Command if install fails.

it used to have vista on it, I would happily go back to it if it would get it up running. My flash drive is only 500 MB and the computer isn't reading the dvd roms. If there is another way, i'm all up for it

Buy a 4GB USB stick. You will never regret the decision. Since you've not indicated your location then I can't give you anymore specific advise as to where to buy a 4GB stick.

After you get the stick, let me know.

Do you presently have a Win 7 DVD?

I live in Florida, but I know where I can get one, and yes I own a burned copy from a friend of Windows 7 Ultimate 64, but I also run the same on this one.

I think that your main problem is that your optical drive is going faulty so purchasing a flash drive has got to be a sound investment

Can help you get out of many a problem if you have no disc drive

How are you activating Win7? Do you have the latest installer with SP1?

Does you Win 7 DVD already have SP1?

If not you may want to consider downloading a version with SP1.

The download will not be small but you will then have an ISO file which you can put onto either a DVD or onto a USB stick.

I just want to thank everyone for the help, I'm not out of the woods yet, but it is installing from the usb as i type, so thanks everyone & at Big Lots here in Fl I got an 8 GB flash for $8.00, heck yeah

It worked just fine and my D drive came back he is already up and running

For best performance maintain reinstall from the steps given in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Once you get up and running be sure to take a system image (copy of the OS hard drive) and if you hit any problems in the future you can simply restore the machine from the image and be right back to where you are now without reinstalling and having to find drivers etc
