Cant see folders or find them in search but they are there somewhere

Dont know if this is the right place or not but i am getting

with windows 7
i am trying find "Documnets and Settings" folder in my "C" drive however, its not there (strange i know) but when i try to make a folder called "Documents and Settings" windows 7 keeps on telling me its alreaddy there and would i like to merge the folders. If i say no the warning box gose away and i am left with a new folder called new ok thats fine however, if i say yes to the merge the dam thing disapears grrr and it cant be found using the search box or the avd search. Can someone please help before i kill the computer

Hi Waggy, welcome to the forums

You'll find that 'Documents and Settings' does infact exist if you have 'Hidden files/folders' and 'Protected operating system files' enabled.


You'll find that it's a system created folder that 'should' control the libraries for sharing etc therefore you will not be able to create a new 1. XP used to house all the user data in that folder but since Vista it's now all housed in the 'Users' folder.

Its there, but hidden so you cant get to it easily. Stay away you can cause damage to the OS

Thank you for the helps all however, i know its a no go area but i need to get into the folder i run a online shop and am trying to load up my shopping softwear, which was and is fine on XP but on windows 7 it cant find "Documents and Settings" folder which it needs to work i am trying to find how to unhide the folders. without the folder my softwear will not work.

Have you tried installing the software with compatability for XP? This will make the software behave as if you're running XP (for the most part) which may also allow for the software to alter it's locations to the Users Document folder.

Thank you i have looked into this and it dose not give the option to do this. When i load the software up its fine untill i try and start it after it tells me the path to documents and settings is not there so it will not open, but we all know there is a documents and settings folder however, the software cant find it or can any search i do, untill i try and make a folder called doucments and settings then the system finds it however, it wont show me where it is grrr also i can find the folder options menu to change the hinden settings for the folder
