Hi,

I got Windows 7 yesterday :D, my girlfriend about a month back. We are both having the same email problem (PC's connected to same router). Neither of us can send email. She is using live and I am trying Thunderbird (which she also tried). We are both receiving email on two accounts - my two are from seperate servers. She spoke to the ISP tech support and they couldn't resolve it. When I try to send an email I get the error 'login to server smtp.dodo.com.au failed' (and similar for my other account).

All of the details are entered correctly (checked by tech support as mentioned).

I tried turning off Avira and Windows Firewall but it makes no difference.

Any advice appreciated. :)

I would speak to your ISP about the blacklisting. That needs to be fixed that alone could be your problem.

That's a bit over my head, can you help me out on what that means :o.

I forgot to point out that if I log into my account on dodo at their website I can send email just fine, it's just when I try to send it locally. The same goes when I log into my web server, I can log into that and send email fine. That server is with IXWeb Hosting.

My girlfriend has an XP laptop as well and is able to send email fine still at her other house - it's only when she comes to my place that she has the problem with her desktop that is here and has Windows 7 (no problem the day before she installed 7 ). Before the installation yesterday morning I was sending email just fine as well - as soon as I installed Windows 7 I got the same problem.

Blacklisted: When an IP address/domain sends SPAM and a 3rd party systems collects that fact then adds it to a maintained list. Then any other email server that uses that maintained list can filter email. (i.e. reply to it, reject it, ignore it, drop it, send for approval or delete it.)

Dictionary Definition - blacklist: a list of persons or organizations under suspicion, or considered untrustworthy, disloyal, etc., esp one compiled by a government or an organization

It maybe your IP is black listed??? Or your ISP is rejecting your IP address for some reason, or your router is blocking the connection to your SMTP server.

What happens when she brings the Windows XP laptop from her house to yours? Do you still have the same problem? Since the Windows XP laptop is working at her house I would try it from your house to start eliminating things.

She hasn't been bringing it out since she got the desktop here and she won't be back for a few days :(.

Pretty sure it will fire up straight away - when we installed 7 on hers a month back and it stopped sending for her straight away, I continued to send mail no problem for the whole month until the install yesterday - we had been wondering if it would happen to me all month.

I have a Netgear DG834 and went through all of the drivers for updates, time to look into that for Windows 7 compatibility and send them an email as well?
