Can't set admistrator password for the first time or rename folders.

I just got a Toshiba Satellite L735D with Windows 7 Home Premium OA and I attempted to set an admistrator password for the first time. I recieved and error that said "Windows can not change the password".

Also I added a new folder to the desktop and it will not allow me to change the name. It gives me an error saying the folder is no longer located at the location. If I cancel the rename the folder is there.

I starting thinking these issues may be related? This was a demo computer for the store I purchased it at. I wonder if there is some setting left over eventhough they removed the demo software and their admistrator account.

Quite a few months ago, I read a post very similar to yours. The answer was that the store had used the Hidden Aministrator to demonstrate the computer. Try to activate this administrator and see if you regain complete control, again

Unfortunantly this only works for Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions and mine is Windows 7 Home Premium OA. I also tried ctr-alt-delete and Change Password. I left the old password blank since there isn't one set. But it said access denied.

What about taking it back to the store to see if they know the password and can change it to something you choose?

There isn't a password set for the admin account yet. I'm think I might just restore it.

Did you get the OS cd with the purchase? First thing I would be doing was a fresh reinstall after purchasing a demo model of a computer. Who knows what people have done to the OS so far.

It did not come with disks, I have to make them. I am planning on a restore now. It has been giving me the blue screen of death. I am hoping to work on restoring tonight.

Finally hade to call the store to find out Toshiba has you hold the 0 down when rebooting to restore to "out of the box" settings. But it is a clean install and seems to be working MUCH better. Thanks for all the help!
