Can't set IE11 as default browser

I have no idea,
If you'd like to show us your programs and features page/ s feel free,
You obviously have a third party utility blocking changes to your search (which one) at this point is any ones guess :/
Could be a malware could be a simple setting in one of your utilities ?

To ThrashZone- re your first link saying I didn't reply to your request for what search providers I use
I posted this response 3 days ago:
"To ThrashZone- my only search provider is Google, as default- I tried Bing but preferred Google, there
are some entries in Registry for it. Believe at one time Yahoo was offered but don't think it was iinstalled,
but there are entries in Registry for Yahoo Toolbar, Search, etc. No program iinstalled. "

Re the second link- I can't answer that one because your link just sends me to the top of the thread, with my original posting, and I don't think that was what you were referring to. I don't intentionally NOT answer anybody's postings, after all I'm the one asking for help. I have scanned thru other messages from you
and the only one that might apply is the one about Winpatrol, which didn't seem to be a question. Sorry if I misunderstood you.

Then remind me again why you don't want to Uncheck the box Tell me if internet explorer is not the default web search
As you stated Google is your preference :/

If you are using WinPatrol it could be stopping you from setting your default browser.

To Layback Bear- I didn't think about Winpatrol. because I've used it for years without
any problems, and this problem only started about 2 weeks ago. But you're the second person who has
mentioned Winpatrol. so I'll remove it and try and let you know.

To ThrashZone-
Apologies again, thought I had answered your suggestion of why I didn't want to un-check
the box "Tell me if Internet Explorer is not my web browser".

1- IE11 is the only web browser I have ever used or installed on this computer;
2- Google is the only search tool I have ever used, tried bing once, didn't like, had Yahoo installed
by another software update and took it off immediately;
3- this problem of getting the "IE is not your default" pop-up has only been happening for approx. 2 weeks
and it can't be reset, which to me means there is a problem of some kind;
4- I have had many problems with "Not responding" Issues, not only with internet browsing
but with Excel spreadsheets that I use;
5- I have had issues several times over the last weeks with software installations, e.g YouTube downloader
which is reported by AdwCleaner as malware or similar;
6- On many occasions, my computer seems to come to a halt, takes minutes to resume, sometimes doesn't
and has to be re-booted.

When I put all of the above together, I conclude this computer has a problem: I could un-check the box
that u pointed out in post #9; in fact I did, and it had not effect on that problem.
But that message is only symptomatic and not a cause or a solution.
Hope that clarifies my thinking.

To ThrashZone- to make matters worse-
I now have a second program which will not change (some?) settings- my Synaptics Touchpad.
Back in post #15, you gave me steps to follow to reboot after disabling non-Microsoft services.
One of those was the service for Synaptics, and I noticed after the re-boot that the tapping feature
had been activated. And... the icon for the Synaptics device in the system tray had disappeared.
I can still get to the Synaptics menu and its device settings but the setting to enable/disable tapping
has no effect on the actual working of the device. Different tool, same problem as the setting for Internet Explorer default.

This is a critical issue for me- I can't use any computer with this tapping feature ON because of a medical condition. When I reset the non-MS services to run again after that test, the Synaptics service was running
so I couldn't understand why tapping was still activated. Now I understand.

Do I have to do another post for this Synaptics issue?

To ThrashZone- to be very honest, my sending the doc file was just following the guidelines
for file types that are allowed, as per the link in YOUR SIGNATURE. If that file type in "allowed types" is not
valid anymore, then maybe someone should change the contents of that link. I don't know why you are making such a big deal of this.
