Cant take ownership of files

Not sure if this is where this should go but I am having an issue with an old windows folder that is on my hard drive after doing a reinstall. Everytime I try to delete it it tells me I need permission to perform this action. That I require permission from xyz, which was my last computer name. I go to security and see that full control is set for adminstrators, So i go to advanced and take control of the folder.
I go to delete the folder now, and it tells me still that I need permission to perform this action, You require permission from the administrator to make changes to this folder.
Im confused since I am the adminstrator on the computer, the only user. So i set full control and access to everything for every little user it had listed and still nothing. Not able to delete the folder. Personally I would rather not have to format my hard drive to solve this issue. Whats going on here and how do I fix it

You can try to name a file the exact same on to your desktop and the cut/copy & paste it into the same folder as the problem one and let it replace it then delete the new one....or try an "Unlocker" program here

Made similar folder and sent it to where it needed to go, But just incorporates the folder, doesnt replace it. And the unlocker program does nothing, Select delete from the UI in the program and click ok, and nothing happens.

Hello, try following the steps below,

Steps:

1) Create a folder called "Windows.old"

2) Move files that cannot be deleted into that folder

3) Run Disk Cleanup in Start - All Program - Accessories - System Tools (or Search in the Start menu)

4)Choose the drive where the Windows.old file is located and click OK

5) Check the "Previous Windows Installations" box and click OK

Done!

Note that you can also Rename the Folder you want to delete to "Windows.old" instead of making a new folder

P.S. If you do not have enough permissions to move/rename you have to gain ownership of a file/folder first.
You will need to select the file or folders that you wish to take ownership of then right click them and select Properties
Then select the Security tab and click Advanced
Now select the Owner tab and click Edit
Choose the new owner of the files, check the "replace owner on subcontainers and objects" and click OK
You will be presented with a notice that you are granting full control to a new user - if you wish to do this, click Yes. Now OK all of the remaining property windows and you will now have control over the selected files/folders.
