I've been attempting to install Windows 7 for a few days and as I start the process the software tells me that I need to uninstall INTEL PROSet/Wireless.

I went to PROGRAMS in the Control Panel and it's not there.

Finally I went to regedit and edited all the Proset stuff out.

Disabled the INTEL WiFi Link 5100 AGN in the Device Manager. Attemped to unistall it, but it's still there.

Still I can't install Windows 7.

I have an ASUS with 64 bit VISTA. any other idea's?

I would try system restore. Go to a point prior to your installation.

sorry. System restore was the first attempt at a solution. Each of the over 5 restorepoints come back eventually that the restore was unsuccessful. I guess I'm hosed and have to rebuild the drive.

Donald, you are apparently trying to run setup from within Vista. Have you tried to boot from the DVD to see if it works? I believe that when you give control to the installer first, it wouldn't activate the Pro-set wireless drivers.

Also, a simple thing to try: turn your wireless off. Maybe that would work, if the problem is that the computer is trying to access the wireless network during installation (although I have installed over a wireless connection and no problem, but it is simple to try)

If all fails, you don't necessarily need to rebuild everything. You can use Windows Easy Transfer to organize your personal files and program settings, do a clean install and then restore the personal stuff. You would still need to reinstall all your programs. And I recommend backing up separately, not trusting 100% in WET, I have seen cases where the file generated could not be read

If you would also fill in your system specs, maybe we can think of something else.
