Can't update due to old netword admin policy

Hello,

My company went out of business, and gave me a laptop (HP 8440W) running Win 7 Professional 64 bit SP1. So the domain no longer exists obviously. Windows 7 hasn't updated in over 18 months because of that. SP1 is the last major update.

How do I bypass or update this? Can I disable the group policy somehow on the laptop to allow for automatic updating?

Or, should do I create a new login perhaps, and move all my files from the old domain login to this new login?

Thanks!

The installed Key is a probably KMS Volume License Key - which is not available to the general public.
It requires re-activation at least every 180 days at a private server owned by the License-holder.

For which version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case?

You should probably reformat and reinstall using genuine media, whatever the result we can achieve here.
