When I push the minimizing button to put a window in the taskbar it goes on top of the internet explorer button and so in order to use the internet I have to push the explorer button which brings the window that I minimized back up. I should be able to have several windows in the taskbar so I minimiZe and bring windows up whenever it suites my purpose. Whats up?

If you open a new tab on IE to go to a new website, you won't have but one IE browser open but will have several tabs. This way you will not have more than one instance of IE open at a time and thus only one on the taskbar.

I'm lost. First what is an IE? Then how do I go about setting it up so that I can use the minimize button to minimize running web sites and bring them up when needed. Or do I always have to cancel the webpage to get backl to the internet. Maybe I didn't explainl this right. So I'll start over: When I want to minimize a unning web page and push the minimizing button it goes down to the taskbar and rests on the internet explorer button. So in order to use the internet explorer I have to bring the the web page again and push the x in the upper right hand corner to leave the web page. Then I can use the internet. Why can't I minimize the running web page and place somewhere else besides on the internet exporer button so I can bring it up by pushing a button? Even the older computers will do that so why doesn't widndows seven do it?

IE is Internet Explorer........When you open it you will see a "plus mark" next to the page you are on. Click that and you can go to a different web page. You can then have more than one website open at a time. Is this what you are asking?

Or just go into your start menu and click on internet explorer again, but you should be using tabs, as suggested. You could have 20 windows (random number) open if you want.

There`s no plus mark, just a small tab next to the last current tab on the right at the top of the window.

Here is an example of 9 windows open, can you see them across the top ?
Do you have tabs enabled ?

AddRam is correct. The plus mark is on Firefox not IE, my mistake.

Do any of you remember if IE v6 had tabbed browsing? I was not aware of it until IE v8. Just curious if I missed it or it was not there then. Thanks,

Just checked an old machine that has IE6 installed. Definitely no tabbing. It has big green back and forward buttons. Can't remember IE7 but wasn't that the version we all tried to avoid?

Or just go into your start menu and click on internet explorer again, but you should be using tabs, as suggested. You could have 20 windows (random number) open if you want.

Let me give this a shot......Open Internet Explorer to any website. At the top you will see a tab that has the name of the website you are on, see it? To the right of that is a second tab, click on it and a new IE window will open so you can go to a different website. This should solve your problem.

yes it works. thanks. I never saw that before but it works so I will use it. But I will always be curious to know why the minimize button won't put the running web page on the task bar because that is the only way I have ever seen it.

So then, why don`t you put it there ? start>all programs> internet explorer

right click and pin it to the start menu.

What do you mean, when you minimize it, it won`t go to the taskbar ? That`s where it goes.

Do you now know how to open multiple tabs ?

Internet Explorer 6 did not have tabs. Then you would have multiple icons on your Taskbar. As far as I know, IE 8 was the first to have tabs and allowed you to have only one instance of it open at a time. If you only need one instance of it open, it saves memory and makes your PC faster.
