Hi,

I just joined this forum because I'm really desperate.

(I also need my computer sorting out! :p)

I downloaded K Lite Codec after reading that that's what I need to make Windows Media Player play .MOV files.

It didn't work. I still got a "Codec Needed" error.

So I searched online again, and found Quicktime Alternative 322, and although installing that "successfully" the software still won't play the files.

I have had a lot of trouble with Windows 7 putting drivers/ codecs in strange places, and having to go online and find laborious instructions of how to locate them and transfer them to the correct location.

I am seriously wishing I had asked for an XP machine to be built. I have had to buy a new printer despite my old two working perfectly on my XP PC. Then it took two days to get my mobile phone's software working on W7, and now to cap it all, I cannot watch any of the videos from my main Olympus camera, nor hear videos from my mobile phone.

What is the simplest way of solving these issues please?

thanks a lot

Hi,

I did as you advised, and although I can now view mobile videos with sound - thanks a lot!
And I can now see MOV videos, but they now have no sound either.

In the installation process I saw both applications said they were going to go into Program Files (x86) but I can only find the first codec; Win7codecs in there. On the H264 tab, it is on the same settings as Shark007's diagram here:
Shark007.net - Windows 7 Codecs - WMP12 Codecs and I clicked Reset Settings like you said on Config.

But I can't find the x64 Components within Program Files (x86). Or was that integrated with the first one? If so, where is the Settings please?

Or do I need to do something else to get sound on MOVs?

thank you

The x64 Components is located in C:\Program Files.

But you could find it in Start, all programs, shark007 codec pack

Hi Punkster,

I found the Settings for x64 Components, thanks.

But they were already on the right settings; I just changed Windows Media Player to 64 bit.

But I still have no sound on .MOV files.

Do you know what I have done wrong?

thanks a lot

Ok, try this.

On the MOV ~ OGG Tab, check the "Camera Splitter" option.

See if that enables the audio on .MOV files.

Post back with your results :geek:

OK I did that thanks, but it didn't work.

I am wondering if this mystery tool I have is affecting it.

In my system tray is a thing called VIA HD Audio Deck. I never paid extra for a sound card, and one isn't listed, but the builders put this on. Here's a pic below of the settings on it.

Not sure if this is causing it, thanks

Did you try to do the Camera Splitter in both (32 and 64-bit configuration) and actually play the .MOV file on the 32-bit WMP?

EDIT: if that doesn't work, please PM directly the developer, he's an user of the forums:

Oh no! - I cheered too soon!

The .MOV files only play sound in 32 bit.

But the mobile phone videos (MP4) play sound in 64 bit.

It's bedtime now, but tomorrow I will try asking Shark007, thanks.

OK, I can't PM people yet as I'm new, but I have made a shortcut to Shark's 64 bit box, so I can change it each time I need to.

Also my AMR sound files don't work on 64 bit. So on 32 bit, MOV files work with sound and MP4 files don't have sound, but AMR files play ok.

On 64 bit, the function of the MOV and MP4 files are reversed, and no sound files.

I might have to consider converting some file types, but I also have my old XP PC and new PC back to back, so I can use them both (tricky when only one monitor!)

But great forum guys! I think it will be a big help in acclimatizing me.
