I have no idea if this is the right place to post this.

Card Reader not working.

Dell XPS 410
with built in card reader

Windows 7 Upgrade over Vista Home Premium.

I think the card reader did work after upgrade but now I can't remember. I don't use it that much.

Problem:

The card reader does not recognize my SD photo cards. I tried multiple cards. The cards DO work on my XP computer.

I also have a USB card reader that I use on my XP computer. That works fine on my XP computer. But the Dell XPS 410 with Windows 7 does not recognize this either.

But back to my Dell XPS 410 with Windows 7 Upgrade:

Built in card reader does not recognize any SD cards.
And I have an external SD USB card reader AND the XPS 410 does not recognize that either.

Any suggestions is appreciated.

Thank you. I did this and nothing changed. Is it possible that the built in 3.5 card reader is dead?

Or are there other things I can/should check?

The two USB ports on front of computer do work.

When I put the older external dedicated SD card reader into USB port - that is not recognized. This same external card reader is recognized by my XP desktop.

I don't know if these two are the same issue.

I have seen some people "eject" their card reader. It will not work until you restart. If you have not restarted in a while, try that. It will recognize it at boot. Card readers are easy to eject by accident.

Are there anything in the event logs to suggest there is an issue with the card reader. Card reader are not known to have much issues, however it's always best to check you got the right driver. A driver installed doesn't always means it's a suitable one. Check my sig for link to tutorial to sust it all out.

Card reader working again.

For the life of me. I never would have figured this out.

I unplugged everthing and put desktop on floor. Was cleaning off desk.

Then put desktop pc back in same spot. Plugged everything back in.

Tried card reader and it worked.

Either the unplugging did something or the moving of computer did something.

But all works now.
