Card reader occasionally quits

I might be in the wrong area to get this issue resolved, but I have my fingers crossed.. First the problem. The box is HP D5200T running Windows Home Premium nicely. Minimal hickups compared to Vista. Any way, the Win7 update went in smooth. So smooth I was scared. My dual monitors were always getting messed up by Vista, so that stopped right away. My HP came with an application caller Cyber Suite that plays and records DVD and CD. It didn't work at all with Vista. But W7 likes it.

My only lingering battle is with the multi-media card reader. It will work (reading cards) for a while. but then just stops. Restart is the only fix. I have tried uninstalling them, tried updating the driver. I tried plugging it into another area of the board. I even tried a whole new card reader! Can anyone walk me thru a fix?? HELP!!!!

Glad you like win 7, we do as well. Can you tell us what model the card reader is. and if you are 32bit or 64?

Left clicking on the safely remove icon allows you to eject only a single device. Additionally, if you open device manager, right click your computer name and click scan for hardware changes, it will allow you to regain the use of the card reader.

Sorry about that. Its a 64 bit system, and the 15 in 1 card reader is the factory HP part.

I have tried the "safely remove" option, but that does me no good when the PC doesn't see the card to begin with. After a restart, the card reader is good so go. I've tried the CF, SD and MS slots. All good. But at a point down the road, might be minutes or hours, it stops working. No error messages at all. I'll just pop in a card an nothing happens. The light on the card reader comes on, so it knows a card was just plugged in, but its not reading. When its in the no reading condition, the card reader is still listed in device manager, and there are no warning icons. I've tried a driver update, but it tells me I have the most current one.

This is all I can find so far.

Go to Diskmanagment (diskmgmt.msc) and right-click on that card reader
"drive". Click Properties and see if it has a Policies tab. On that tab,
there are two options: Optimize for quick removal, or Optimize for
Performance. Choose the quick removal.

Maybe try another driver. I can possibly find one for you.

In device manager -

right click it. Properties. Details tab. Change dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste the results to a new post.

Also, you can check the device manager settings for it too - to see if it has that "allow computer to turn off this device to save power" type of setting.

I just did the dick management/properties. All slots are already set for quick removal. So I changed nothing. I took a screenshot of the device manager, properties tab as requested.

The driver info is dated 2006... but it says its the most current when I try to update.
