Card will not read through DVI

It will only read through HDMI. why is this? i have everything plugged in. my vga to dvi adaptor is in. and dvi is connected to monitor but it will only detect in HDMI. im trying to hook up my xbox to monitor but if DVI wont work i dont want to keep switching HDMI clabes.
please dont mention a hdmi switcher cuz its too much atm
any help?
is it because i have the dvi and hdmi plugged in at the same time?

not very fast lol
The HDMI and DVI are both digital inputs. The monitor will auto detect either analog or digital, but when the HDMI is connected, it becomes the default digital source. Disconnect the HDMI cable from the monitor, and see if the DVI doesn't display now. A Guy
