I'm stunned that they are asking you to pay for the shipping, or at the least give you their volume discount. How about the place where you ordered this case most will ship and handle the return if it's under 30 days. Oh and yes it is good you have a UPS account as they will at least pick up without a fee from an account holder.

See, here's the thing:

On one hand I can handle it through CM directly, and they'll get a shipping label to me..although I'll still have to pay to have it shipped. Again, scandalous.

On the other hand there's Newegg, and yes it's covered by the 30-day return warranty as I only brought it the 22nd of last month; however if I ship it back to them it's going to cost me the aforementioned $52.65 for the label and to have it shipped (or one or the other, I honestly don't know how it works). Which is also scandalous.

So I'm shelling out money for a defective POS either way.

Do you know anybody that has a UPS shipping business acct. ? They usually get a discounted shipping rate with UPS. Maybe about $20.

What about the USPS. I shipped a LIAN LI case to Puerto Rico for $25.00 using parcel post. It should be just as cheap to California. $52.62 is Newegg and UPS milking it.

Don't buy the shipping label through Newegg. I had to RMA a Card Reader and they wanted me to pay 10$ in shipping. I put it in a box and took it to my local post office and it cost me only 5 bucks for 2 day shipping to Newegg. I suspect that it would be the same situation here.

They refunded the shipping costs and sent a prepaid label to me. The CS I spoke to said with defective parts to always call CS. She said that they could do things that on line was not set up to do. It could be worth a phone call, worse that can happen is they say no.

Actually I'd be surprised if you did, or if you did it would just be a temporary charge to hold till the RMA'd case is received back at CM.

So I'm now in possession of the HAF-X, and it's been an absolute pain in my ass.

Why?

With the board mounted in the case none of the expansion cards line up properly at all; they're not in-line with the slots, and if I line them up then they'll jog out of place and won't line up with PCI slots at all. Yes, the standoffs are all in the right place, and yes, everything is tightened as it should be. If I use taller standoffs like those that came with the Stacker then the board is too high and won't line up with the I/O panel -- do you see a trend here?

I don't know why either.

This is the third consecutive time I've been screwed out of money buying a PC component; first the two 4870 X2's (one was the result of an RMA), and now this POS. I'm not even sure if I care.

I should have just brought the 800D and foregone the 6950.

Wish I would have seen this earlier but.....

I don't understand what your issue is with the HAF X but I have one and everyting fits/aligns up fine, including my 6950. Anyway you should have been using the posts that came with the case.... you did get posts and screws right?

Sorry you had a terrible time with it, perhaps it was defective? I don't know I just know I haven't experienced any alignment/fit issues.

I used the provided screws and standoffs, yes, I even used the two alignment standoffs and that didn't even help. There's a few people who've had this problem before.

Quality control issue, I suppose.

Washers. When the board is in the case a few of the standoffs aren't elevated high enough to the point where there's contact between it and the board, which basically causes the board to recess and contort slightly. I used two plastic washers I had lying around and it actually seemed to solve the problem; the 6950 lined up just a bit better as did my sound card.

Now, would it make a difference if I used metal washers?

Stick with plastic.

Eliminate any potential grounding/shorting issues from the get go.

Sounds as if CM shipped the wrong standoffs. I would investigate that.

No, I'm done investigating. You don't get any worthwhile responses (if you even get one!), customer support is nigh on useless.

I'll make do with what I have. I just won't purchase another CM product so I won't have to go through this again.

One thing I suggest you don't do - deal with them, (or any other tech support) through e-mail or chat. That route is frustratingly slow, and will most likely generate a canned response. A phone call is always the best way to get an issue resolved, and your point(s) across

Two CM Cases

I have a HAF932 and a HAFX. One had un upper fan that rubbed the case slightly. Solved it with a shim. These are the quietest, coolest rigs I have ever owned.

I haven't made the move yet but I test fitted with another board, and the 4870 fits in snug and aligns with the expansion slot properly. Now I have to decide if I want to risk this heavy ass DCII weighing itself down to the point of depression. I mean, it's doing that now in the Stacker but with it being so close to the base I can just stick a piece of foam underneath to support it, in the HAF there's too much space between it and the base, or even it and the PSU cover for that matter.
