Hi IC. The high price doesn't surprise me but you are looking at a 25.5" screen model there.
It must be wrongly named at the supplier, or at least in their ad listing.
Once you go over the standard sizes, used to be 24" now 23", prices rocket.
I found the proper one I'm talking about at Amazon.com for $290 US. As I said they are going for around £200 GBP so that's a fair price for a change. Usually we pay the same dollar price in pounds despite the exchange rate!
Anyway, this is a bargain compared to a regular TN panel. The monitors you mentioned are TN panels.
They will have good contrast and good response times but will not be a patch on an IPS panel.
On an IPS panel you get a huge colour gamut, better brightness, no difficulties with viewing angles etc.
These IPS monitors are what photographers and graphic artists use, they can be calibrated for true colours.
Up until recently IPS panels were hugely expensive which is why I mentioned the Viewsonic and the Dell because, at last, us mere mortals can get pro quality at a similar price to a regular TN panel.
Both also have excellent ergo stands and are pretty much pro quality.
Here's the Amazon link: Amazon.com: ViewSonic VP2365WB 23-Inch IPS LCD Monitor: Computer & Accessories
ps. The Amazon link has 43 customer reviews attached so have a look at those
