Had the worst crash  I have ever experienced or heard of. After 2 weeks of trying to save it I was forced to do an install  with the loss of all data (you want to re-play 2000 levels of Angry Birds) and software.

Reinstalled Creative Sound Blaster for X-Fi Xtreme Audio and all the pertinent upgrades. I have a Logisys 2 speaker system.

The only way I can get sound is to tell setup I have 7 speakers.

Has anyone ever run into this problem?

Did the Integrated audio (on the motherboard) happen to get enabled in the BIOS? That would conflict with the SoundBlaster and hard to tell what problems would arise. If it is enabled, disable it and see if that helps. You can only have one default audio playback device.

Also, any Intel motherboard chipset drivers. Win 7 should have installed them but I've seen cases where they didn't or didn't install the correct ones. One of the prime things the chipset drivers do is correctly identify all the devices on or attached to the motherboard.

BTW, I'm a Florida Retiree.

Thanks for replying.
I checked and both were listed as enabled.
Disabled the system sound, but problem persists.

Did you actually disable the Integrated audio in the BIOS. If not, that is the first step.

Ah...hmmm....BIOS is such a scary group of letters.

Would it be possible for you to give me a step by step?

When you first boot up, you press a key to enter the BIOS. Its usually on the screen. Could be F2, could be "Del", etc. Inside the BIOS look for the listing for on-board audio. Sometimes its referred to as Legacy audio. Not all BIOS are the same so I can't give you exactly.

Looking at the ASUS manual. The "Advanced" section of the BIOS is where the "on board devices configuration" is.
In that section, High Definition Audio will be listed, disable this.

Well. I did it. So proud.

Disabled it in BIOS and still have the problem.

I do now have an ASUS screen on boot that makes it a lot easier to get into BIOS.
Have no idea where it came from.

Now that you have the integrated audio out of the way. Reinstall the SoundBlaster drivers and see if you can now set it to the proper speaker configuration.

The Integrated will (or has the potential) to cause conflicts with other sound cards with varying results.

What a difference.

So glad I have REVO Uninstaller. My jaw dropped when I saw how much unneeded (for me) software Creative had installed. Even with REVO it took hours and then I ran Ccleaner and finally did a search for anything leftover. Must have picked up 30-40% of disk space.

Reinstalled driver and control panel only. As soon as I rebooted I could tell the difference. Checked the control panel and I am back to a 2 speaker configuration.

So.
!. Problem fixed.
2. Picked up a lot of disk space.
3. Have an ASUS flash screen on boot which allows easy access to so much. Still don't know where it came from.

Many thanks fireberd. :D :D :D :D :D

Great, glad I could offer a little help. Us retirees have to help each other.

BTW, I lived in Nashville for about a year in eary 70's. Even worked at a music store on Lower Broadway across from Tootsie's.
