ccleaner and all downloads stuck 99% ??

Hi,

Everything was going ok, I have Windows 7 Beta build 7022 32Bit. Then I installed ccleaner and performed both ccleaner and registery. Now what ever I try to download with IE gets stuck at 99%. Does anybody know if ccleaner caused this problem and can I fix it.

This is my only problem so far, I have windows live installed no problem, and my system runs ok even though I have only 512mb ram and an old Hyrican laptop.

Hi Steve and welcome,

I have heard of ccleaner deleting some important files that shouldn't be included in the deletion list in windows 7. Best to check to make sure something included isn't important before running cleaner programs.

Thank you for quick reply.

I have just used system restore and restored to before ccleaner was installed. I tried a download and it worked without problem. I then used system restore again to undo the system restore i had just done and tried the same download again, it stuck at 99%.

Its getting late now so tommorow I will use system resore again to restore before the ccleaner and then reinstall the extra drivers for my system that were deleted with the system restore. Then i will create a new system restore so that i can go back to this if needed.

Its a bit confusing but will keep you posted if i come up with a fix.

If anybody knows of another free cleaner/registry cleaner program that works with the windows 7 beta I would appreciate knowing.

Also I have been using xp prof for a long time and was a bit reluctant to move on to a newer version of windows but i must say this windows 7 is quiet impressive. As i said I dont have a new powerful laptop with lots of memory or a good enough graphiks card to run the Aero stuff but so far I havent noticed my system being any slower than when I had xp installed.

Well, it's probably because ccleaner included something that is important and you deleted it. What that is, I don't know. Usually, CCleaner is one of the better, safer cleaner programs but it isn't fully supported in Windows 7 yet, as a lot of programs aren't yet. It would be a good idea to make sure you have a restore point before running a cleaner program, and you could also have the program itself make a restore point before you go ahead and "clean" anything. And like I said, it's best to cross reference anything it's going to delete to make sure it doesn't really belong there.

If you messed with the registry (which I don't suggest) using CCleaner, did you confirm a backup? If you did, look in your Documents to see if there is anything related too CC_ ###.reg <---numbers signifying date of backup. You can double click on that reg file and merge it back in the registry.

Oh that happens to me too, its anti virus + internet explorer issue I just turned off windows defender and leave my eset do the work then I used flashget download manager 2.0 ( internet explorer integrated ) to download files and it works like a charm

I use Ccleaner on a regular basis, but have not experienced that problem. I have Defender turned off - perhaps that could be influencing it?
I have experimented with most of the Anti virus progams in 7, and I did find Nod32 produced that effect, but it was mainly a tangle of conflicting messages at the end. (But that is just me and NOd. I find it too complicated to set up). The files were, in fact, downloaded.
If the file has been downloaded 99%, it is complete. The remaining 1% is used in copying from the temp download to your specified path. Perhaps the downloads are indeed on your computer, or there is a problem with the specified download location?

Its a scan lag, everytime IE downloads something and copies it to the directory it seems the anti virus is having problems scanning it ( specially .exe files ). and causing it to get stuck at 99% thats just based on my observation and experience !

Hi all,

I have more information regarding my problem with downloads hanging at 99%

It isnt ccleaner after all that is causing my problem! I have spent a while today trying different things and have found that it is actually "Hide my IP 2008" that is causing me the problem. As soon as I install hidemyip and try a download, anything from download.com for example it stops at 99%. This is even when hidemyip is not running. I uninstall hidemyip and try the download again and all is ok. I have also tested with ccleaner and can still download no problem.

I would like to continue using hidemyip so i am now going to try using a download manager program to download files from within IE. Anybody know of a good one to use or does anyone know of a work around for hidemyip?

Hidemyip sounds like a proxy service, correct? Maybe you should have a look on what the tor network is. Very cool.

well, i have had this problem as well, but not with any of the above stated apps. I think this is truly an iexplorer.exe problem and sometimes rolls over to explorer.exe. This could be do to a few things if not IE or explorer. A corrupt install, a corrupt hd, or corrupt files. Nevertheless something is corrupt there.
I do not have that constant problem now, but ever since i updated IE8, it wants to constantly troubleshoot itself and close/restart. Usually this is happening with multiple tabs(atleast 3) or at an attempted download(rarely)... but this is pretty random for me. But is not fixed with a simple reboot or even after running an sfc or startup repair (just for the hell of it).

After i did a fresh of 7000, this 99% problem has corrected itself, but i HAVE had it occur on a few occasions still but very minimal, like less than a handful of times during a month old install.

I Have found there to be a few bad clusters/sectors on this harddrive reported by some apps, and not by others, so for me it could be hardware related. Also this 99 problem has occurred once or twice on my lappy tho. I would first test hardware.

How glad am I to find this forum. After mnths of not being able to download anything I find that it could be the hid my IP program which I have. I uninstalled this program and everything is now working fine..thank you.
