I saw in an article of a news portal in spanish and it says something like :
Avast bought CCleaner in July 2017.
blablabla blablabla and it´s repupation is decreasing, because it was hacked blablabla blablabla...
Then it says:
Last week, Avast launched a new update of CCleaner and experts recommends 2 reasons why not to update: Its almost impossible to deactivate active monitoring and also there is no privacy settings in the free version.
They deleted the 5.45 update and the latest is actually 5.44
And in the ending of the article it says its almost late to recover users trust.

So what do you think about Ccleaner? still usefull ? Or is there another great app like this one free?
What do you think about BleachBit ? or is there another one?

Thank you and have a great weekend in advance!

I agree with people's concerns about CCleaner. For me there's little doubt that since Avast bought it it is no longer the excellent product it once was. I no longer use it but instead I've found Wise Disk Cleaner a very good substitute:
Wise Disk Cleaner - Free Disk Cleanup and Defrag Tool

I wouldn't bother with the Disk Defrag or Advanced Cleaner. Just use the Common Cleaner and possibly the Slimming System modules. You can remove the Windows installation files without causing any problems once they've done their job.

Hi CaLy,

I have used CCleaner for years [except the registry cleaner]. It does what it says on the tin. If you want to carry on using CCleaner, then just download the last version before Avast took it over and use that. Just don't update it. As you probably know, you can make sure that it doesn't start at startup and set updates to manual.

I hope this helps!

I would advise you not to use any registry cleaner. You won't get any performance increase using one but you could easily cause serious problems. Wise Disk Cleaner doesn't have one anyway. And whether you have x86 or x64 doesn't matter.

Regarding CCleaner, I really do advise you to stop using it. Why mess around with old versions of it when you have a product like Wise Disk Cleaner which is just as good? Here's some more info about why you should stop using CCleaner:
Why You Should Stop Using CCleaner on Windows Right Now

Good luck CaLy. If you've got any more questions just post back.

Hi CaLy,

My system is on SSD, is it ok to install and use the Wise Disk Cleaner you told me about?
I will let edassange answer your question.
I will say however, that you shouldn't really defragment an SSD drive.

I hope this helps!

As Paul Black said, you should NOT defragment an SSD, so (VERY IMPORTANT) don't even click on the Disk Defrag option in Wise Disk Cleaner. I suggest you just use the first option in the top left corner, Common Cleaner. Just click on it, then click on Scan, then click on Clean. Common Cleaner is generally very safe and won't remove anything you need.

Here's a short review of Wise Disk Cleaner. Good luck!

I've used CCleaner for many, many years and it has never been a problem for me and I always use it's registry cleaner with never a single issue. However, as the company has pulled the 'problem' release off the market, all should be well. Personally, I find many tools within it too useful to be without. I recently found and use System Ninja as s 'second-string' tool and have found it very similar to CC. I also use Old Timer's TempFileCleaner at the end of my house-cleaning for final mop-up. Next year this machine will be 10 years old, I've been all over the web and I've only had one BSOD, at the beginning, due to my ineptness with some W7 admin duties (I went from ME straight to W7).

Coincidentally, while troubleshooting another issue I happened to stumble upon that since 07/25 there have been 32374 (!) audit failures for ccleaner64.exe in Event Viewer as outbounds are blocked in Windows Firewall. (The latest Piriform portable version.) I keep it as a running process, minimized to the systray. All "phone home" options in the ccleaner settings are disabled.

I've been using ccleaner since forever and this is the final nail in the coffin and I'll just be running on demand from now on.

Cheers.
