CCTV DVR program communication issues in W7

I thought this was a Router issue, it's not. I have a laptop that is running W7 Pro x64, the same as my desktop tower and the program seems to work fine. But not on the desktop. Something is corrupted somewhere. I do have a older 'image' of the O/S, but I would like to try to find the problem w/o having to use it (assuming that image doesn't have the problem).

AFA recent changes, most have been installing and uninstalling the programs for this CCTV DVR. They had older versions, one that needed IE and one that was a stand alone program. The IE web program needed a active X to run. I then discovered they had a newer program that initially worked better, but various problems developed which I thought were the DVR itself. It now is apparent it wasn't. I'm assuming the communications issues are related to these other programs. But since the same current program version works on the laptop, that narrows things down.

What's happening, or more like not happening is the 'streaming' from the DVR to the PC dies after a few seconds after the program loads. If I don't touch anything the 'Quad View' (four cameras) seems fine, but when I choose a single camera, then return to all four it usually starts to breakup and the images either freeze or go blank. Restarting the program doesn't solve the problem. Again , it's NOT the Router, this is a wired connection on a gigabyte local network! I even tried a 2nd network card.

So anyone have any ideas what/where I should/could look for issues?

In your last thread I told you it was software...

Since the software relies on Internet Explorer, I'd pour through the Internet Options in the Windows control panel and compare and contrast those settings to the computer that works, specifically ActiveX. I'd also make sure IE is updated.

There's an IE component here messing something up.

That was for the web browser access method which I'm not using.
Their SecureGuard, is a stand along program to communicate directly with the DVR, No browser intervention.

I restored a image prior to this fiascos and the Tower has the exact same issue which I was surprised as I thought all that messing around with their older programs was the cause, or I was hoping that was the reason. It wasn't.
To make matters worse, by backup O/S on another drive that I only use when there is a problem (like this), I loaded their current program and got the same results. So I'm at more of a loss.
I'm going to try another port, which I doubt, then load a initial image (from 2016) with just the required drivers including my printers (no no video drivers yet) and see what happens.

AFA IE settings, I basically don't touch them since I almost never use it. I assume that active x plug-in only affects IE, is that correct?

Yes, IE used or uses ActiveX. Many browsers back in the day used it. I believe it's now been depreciated, but some programs may use it.

It's possible that program uses IE internal components and ActiveX controls.

ActiveX back in the day was a major hack vector and in the third-party router firmware DD-WRT you could disable it. ActiveX is a means in which to mess around with the computer's internal components and read things from the computer. Those so-called "can I run it" websites that told you whether your computer can run a game or not used ActiveX to peer inside your machine. I think those websites now use something else. Most like Javascript related or HTML5.

I only mentioned that because I was aware of the security issues with it. I was surprised they had a web based program that needed it.
Anyway, no, I had no plans or need to go that route. Their current program (SecureGuard) is a stand alone allowing access to the DVR either locally (LAN) or remote (WAN). I'm only using it locally, literally feet between the DVR & the Tower. I initially used a older version and it mostly, thou it had issues. I exchanged DVR's (still under 30 day return from the store) and when I talked to the manufacture I was told about the current version which I downloaded and ran. That was when more different issues started. Did a 2nd swap the problems were still there and it finally dawned on me that it might be the S/W version. Went back to the older one and it appears to be working fine again.

The stranger thing, I have a older Laptop (same O/S, both AMD based) and that newer program ran fine there. No idea about any of this. How can one version not work in one PC (same O/S) and work in another? Makes little sense. I wasted a lot of time chasing my tail here.
