Did you change your BIOS to boot from the CD? From your description it sounds like its booting from Windows, and there is a conflict because of the 32 64 bit conflict.

PS Its against policy to bump. Especially after only an hour.

Where did you get Win7? Did you burn DVD? Try burning again at 4x speed with Verify using ImgBurn.

Enter BIOS setup to make sure DVD drive is set to boot first, before HD.

Try removing all but 2gb of RAM for install. Test your RAM first using WIndows Memory Diagnostic test by booting into Win7 DVD Repair my Computer>Recovery Tools List.

ok whil ei was waiting i went ahead and did a clean install of the 32 bit version of win7. works great. but i stil want the win 7 64 bit version. i have my bios set up to boot from cd first but it doesnt do anything. my HDD has only win 7 32 OS on it now. so it cant be a virus or anything. i also tried the ram but no go..i updated my bios like.. 8 months ago... should i serach for another update ?

ok i have all the requirments to do a clean install. i have bios set up to boot from CD/dvd. i boot up and it works. the thing is the screen goes blue, i just see my mouse, and NO language selct promt comes up. it just stops there. the mother board is almost brand new so i dont think thats the problem. i already did 1 clean install with the 32 bit sytem so i know it should work. i just cant get to the select language section of the install process

No, you can use either 32/64 in a clean install from boot. The installer scans the HD and if it sees any OS it will accept Upgrade version key.

Is it possible you are not giving it enough time to load when it seems to stall? On some machines it will take up to 5 minutes to read the HD and locate needed drivers.

Did you test the memory? Use memtest86 to stress test it overnight. Try another 2 gb for install.

Sometimes resetting the CMOS helps: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS
While in the BIOS, check your current version against the latest on your computer or mobo model's Support Downloads webpage.

Also, check what SATA controller is set to.

ok so i reest bios to default, switched boot up to use cd/dvd, removed all ram excepts 2 gigs, unplugged all usb ports, and the magic happened.. it booted up from disc and after 6 min 43 seconds of blue screen the install began!!!...... THANKS YOU GUYS!!!!

blue screen with flowers

When I try to turn the laptop on, it shows the following message:

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

If windows files have been damaged…"

And then it gives me a 2 options:

1. Launch Startup Repair (recommended)
2. Start windows normally.

If I choose option one, it loads some files, and then a black screen appears with no cursor. After waiting for 20-40 minutes, it becomes a blue screen, with flowers, much like a background for a desktop. But there is no option to do anything.

If I choose option 2 (start windows normally) it shows the windows logo for 3 minutes, and then reboots.

I have tried to recover my computer using the discs as I can't start windows. I only get as far as putting the disc in and it gets stuck on a dark blue screen with the mouse showing. I've also tried the F10 option and after a few moments a dialog box appears saying that vaio recovery tools are being launched and it just sits there doing nothing, any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Try tapping F8 repeatedly at bootup to see if a "Repair My Computer" choice exists on Advanced Boot Tools. If not, try Last Known Good Confg then Safe Mode. If so, run Startup Repair repeatedly until Win7 starts, then try System Restore and Memory Test.

If Sony provided a Win7 install DVD or you have access to one, try booting (not running) it to see if there is a Repair my Computer choice on one of the first menu's. If so, select that and run Startup Repair repeatedly from disk, Memory Test, System Restore.

If not, download and burn to CD a Win7 Repair CD to boot and run Startup Repair, System Restore, and Memory Test: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html

You can copy out your files this way: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/93347-copy-paste-windows-recovery-console.html

Is your Sony still under 1 year warranty w/tech support?
