CD/DVD Burning software

1 thing that I noticed tonight with CDBurnerXP was that during the burn of a DVD, my CPU on my box was running really hard. 1 of my 4 cores was pegged at about 90%.

I found the following thread explaining the problem and they suggested replacing one of the .DLL's with a copy from the older version. I figured I would post here in case anybody has the problem;
CDBurnerXP • View topic - 4.0.024.439 very high cpu usage

Edit: I tried this on my box and while it reduced CPU usage, nothing would write to the disc. So, i just dumped cdburnerxp and switched to imgburn. Seems to be working no problem and the price was right again (free).

Sorry to necropost.

I must point out that cdburnerxp made my drive disappear, and I had to uninstall it and follow direction on the windows 7 site to make my drive come back.

For those of you who have installed cdburnerxp on Windows 7 and had no trouble, consider yourselves lucky. From what I read, this is a problem with some burning software out there. I had to uninstall it and delete some registry entries.

This is a known problem with different burning programs since vista - and IIRC even some XP users ran into the same thing. Those high and low filters should just be permanently removed from Windows, but I am not sure why they pop back in, seemingly automatically, when you least expect them to....

I think they remain there for some backward compatibility for older SCSI based 1X and 2X burners... I may be wrong, but that is what I remember. Still, it is time they were removed completely and if someone somewhere out there needs them then they can download the patch / hotfix from M$ and install it. But that makes sense to me, so it is probably never going to happen.

Another scenario is that other programs will add those filters back in for compatibility especially if they detect a SCSI device driver - such as those used by Alcohol, Daemon Tools and VirtualCD....

I used it in 7232 build and had a problem also, would not load my DVD at all so I used imgburn and never had a problem.

ImageBurn seems to be the most popular one - however, I prefer to use the native burning utility or ISO Recorder when doing ISOs - it's that much faster.

Thank you Swarfega for pointing me toward Imgburn. I tried to burn a bunch of tunes this morning with Nero express. A couple of burns failed, and when it did burn, took 17 minutes. Downloaded and used Imgburn, burned the same tunes. Took 3 min. and 5 sec. Absolutley amazing. :)

I don't think it has to do with ease of use...

Imgburn does what most people need... It will burn audio & data. You can make ISO's and there's a few extra tools included all in a whopping 4.39mb installer.

Nero in the other hand has a good bit of bells & whistles. Video & Audio conversion, and an all in one media player. My Nero 8 installer is 230mb.

If all your after is basic audio burning, and an ISO file creator...

Which one would you want on your system?

I've heard many people suggesting ImgBurn. I've tried it and it works fine. The problem is the feature that I wanted is not available. I guess because I downloaded the trial version? or maybe because it's free?

Anyway you can check dvd burning softwares here. They are not free but I guess if you plan to buy one, you can check the list.

What feature do you want? ImgBurn stands out as a burning software. The only problem is it doesnot have "audio CD" burning and doesnot support multi-session burning like NERO. But not many people burn audio CDs these days, MP3 is what people usually burn and hardly anyone burns a disc more than 1 time.

You can burn audio cds with Imgburn, you just have to create a cue file and drag the audio files onto it before you burn it, see here. Also, as of version 5.5 it supports multi session burning of .cdi files. That might not mean multi session on everything but this is sweet if you need to burn .cdi files and diskjuggler doesn't work for ya :D.

I hate the smell of friggin corn chip butt breath snacks.
If you don't wanna use multi session and "aduio CD" burning (involves converting MP3 into some format that makes a 700 mb CD full of only 8-16 songs) just dump NERO and use Imgburn!
