CD/DVD Drive Problem

When I load my disc (tried both CD and DVD) to play, light flashes for 7 seconds and it stops. Device Manager says it is installed OK. In Computer and drive Properties, it says "This Device is Working Properly". == The drive is not reading the disks but everything appears in order. I don't want to buy a new Drive if it is a Software Problem. Have any of you run across this before? Thanks

Not in a while since I replaced a very old acer burner
Try to create a winpe recovery cd with free macrium reflect
Afterwards try to boot to it on start up.

Thanks for the post, but the drive will not read anything. I am going to go down tomorrow and get a new drive. We'll see if that does the job.
