I use PowerDVD for my standard DVD's, and other drivers for DVD's in nonstandard formats, but my laptops--my primary Lenovo, and my secondary Dell--have both lost the driver for CD/DVD ROM's. Other types of software seem to be readily available online, but drivers available online don't work, or come with software that's at least suspect of being malware. Might anybody help me?

There are no third party drivers for CD/DVD drives, just the default built in Windows (Microsoft) drivers.

First thing, check the Device Manager to see if there is an error code listed for the drives. (and post back with the error code if there is one).

My TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H ATA Device shows its status as "This device is working properly." But it isn't.

1. So we are to understand this same problem exists on both your Lenovo and your Dell?
My TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H ATA Device shows its status as "This device is working properly."
2. The above is true on both computers? The drive appears in device manager and, in both cases, says device is working properly?

3. Do the following on each machine and post results
> Download and run Driver Filter Load Order tool
> Click to select the CD/DVD drive. Click the Clipboard button in the tool window. Paste the result into next post

Sorry for the delay; practically speaking, I have internet access only once every several days. Among other reasons, the software disk from my ISP won't run, since the CD/DVD ROM drivers don't work. I'll try this diagnostic as soon as I can; thanks.

You can also try a "refresh" of the drives. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the drive and then LEFT click "Uninstall". Restart the PC and when Windows starts it should detect and reinstall the drive.
