HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH70N [Optical drive] in Gateway DX4860 Desktop i5 8G (6/2012) ....... Lately I can burn about 3 Audio CDs and then the writer gets sluggish and won't work. Next day it works.
Device Mgr says "Working" / MS Mr.FixIt said it Could NOT read the audio CD I inserted when I reached the "won't work" stage today.
It has Not been a heavily used CD writer.
Is this behavior a sign it's Going bad and just hasn't died yet, OR is there something I can try.
Or, Is Burning the 3 CDs w/ several minutes between each Burn enough to cause (ie) "over-heating"?
Any thoughts appreciated!

Just back from a trip and really Appreciate the Link.

I just watched a youtube video on the Front panel Removal of the DX-4860 and I've got to get some nerve up to try it (video card/fan, Ram, HD removal requd) . No outside screws so no clue how hard the Writer Removal is. gateway doesn't want me working on this it appears.

With a Side-Open button for the Writer I posted this pic thinking it was a different Writer-design model I needed --- but I saw the front button on the video's Writer, so that question became moot.

Thanks again for the link. I may get brave & try it.

DX-4860 Front panel removal video below IF anyone Googles and needs it.
