Solved CD reading VERY slow

Hello,

To read a simple picture disk, it takes 10 minutes +. If I try to open something, explorer locks up. All my drivers and firmware is up to date. Also, I had to perform the registry mod to get windows 7 to even recognize that I had a CD/DVD writer in the first place. Write speeds are normal.

Sounds like there is something fishy with your burner. If Win7 didn't recognize it, I would be suspicious.

What is the make and model? Have you recently swapped drives around in your PC? It could be that the drive is set to slave with no master on the IDE bus. (Not sure if it would work at all with that, just taking a guess.)

Do you mean like a virus kind of fishy or like something wrong with my drivers, or a broken part or what?
Its almost like its trying to index the contents of the CD/DVD and its the stock hardware too. As far as the IDE Buss thing, I have no idea what your talking about...

I have a Asus G60 running Windows 7 professional x64
my CD Writer/Reader is a Logitech HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT30N

THinking it's something wrong with the drive. How old is the drive?

Have you recently installed a new hard drive or anything in your PC?

No, its the same stock drive, the computer is about 6 months old, and I think I know what the problem is. I think its trying to index the drive as well as read it. Anyway I can turn that off?
