certain aspects of a webpage are 'invisible' unless using "Chrome"

I'm attaching a side-by-side screenshot to make the point visually. The issue is a broad one and occurs on different web sites when there's a button that takes some action (like 'download' etc. etc.); the button will appear when using 'Chrome' but when using IE or Mozilla.

IT TURNS OUT THAT THE THEME THAT CAME WITH THE PC WAS THE CULPRIT. ACER HAD PRE-CONFIGURED THEIR 'ACER' THEME AND WHEN THE WINDOWS 7 THEME WAS INSTALLED INSTEAD THINGS NORMALIZED!!

It almost looks like part of the CSS is being blocked. The odd thing is both FF and IE have the same issue (the site looks fine on my IE, FF, and Opera). Try booting to Safe Mode with Networking, and see if all browsers work correctly there.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/69585-safe-mode.html

If they all look correct there, try a Clean start to see if there is a conflict

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ation-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html

Personally, I'd be looking at the Norton toolbar 1st. You could certainly just disable it in each browser to test.

Hate to ask 'naive' questions: what's 'the CSS'. And this happens with IE (just didn't want to crowd the images).

More naive questions: what's a 'clean start' (hopefully not reimaging this to out-of-the-box status).

I will get back with more.

CSS = Cascading Style Sheets , a webpage building element. I understand it happens in 2 browsers, I mentioned that in my post.

Read the link for the Clean Start I posted, it says it all (not a re-imaging, a temporary test)

At this point, I have tried all A Guy would recommend - and nothing seemed to point to the source of the problem.

I will use jpegs going forward, but surely Adobe reader must be pretty universal at this point. Am I wrong?

No sorry I personally do not use Adobe reader or any pdf reader on this particular machine,
I try and keep the security holes to a bare minimum.

This is where it gets 'interesting' .... clicking on your link while using IE means you can't see the functional buttons.

BTW, I don't know of any other way of saving a screen shot w/o using a free download from a Gadwin Systems. I would tend to doubt there isn't however.

Once again, it did not change in Safe Mode?

And disabling addons/extensions also made no difference?

You disabled the Norton toolbar?

I ask because you haven't specifically answered these questions, and a security program or addon seems most likely. Perhaps something blocking javascript.

Left clicking disabled the "Active X Filtering" thing and yes I believe I tried each of the suggested diagnostics, none of which seems to have made any difference. I'm attaching screenshot without the Active X filtering enabled (ditto, no difference). Note the cursor/hand in the upper left quadrant is hovering over the word 'Fidelilty' which is a 'button'.

Hi,

It's IE version 11.

I disabled the add-on in your screen shot (leaving all the others enabled).

The gear symbol is explained in the attached screenshot.

Moreover, I performed a clean boot per your email.

Nothing has changed.

I'm about ready to abandon using IE in favor of Chrome which seems at this point trouble-free.

Switch to Software rendering,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/149063-internet-explorer-gpu-hardware-acceleration-turn-off.html
Best I can say try the site with Enhanced protection mode activated which is the same way as ie10,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/280434-internet-explorer-10-enable-32-bit-64-bit-ie10-windows-7-a.html

You can Uninstall ie11 it's new and a bit buggy Heck I don't even have it installed anymore,
About the only solution is to add the site to your Compatibility view list,
Gear symbol/ Comp-view settings/ If your on the site it will already displayed in the Add box/ Click on Add.

Well, this seems kind of insoluble. I added both the software rendering AND the enchanced protextion AND the compatibility modes together simultaneously: no cigar.

I'm not going to uninstall IE 11. I think I'll try becoming a Chrome 'believer' at least until fate smiles.

Something you have to ask yourself is "did ie10 work with this site" ?
Because I'm not seeing any issues using ie10,
Cheers.

No disagreement there but I 'think' 11 worked w/ it at one point. At this time, since there's no overarching reason to discontinue using Chrome, I think I will. Thanks much to you and a guy who shall remain a nonymous (which I guess makes a bad pun).
