certain odd characters randomly appear É

Hi

I've searched for this many times, but this is totally annoying, I have some updates to do, but I have my work laptop fully up to date with SP1.... and still an issue..

So below are the characters that randomly appear ( when typing character left of =), I seem to notice more after pasting, but also does not affect every program when it happens.

?=É
"=È
'=è

I have read it is the keyboard language settings, but that is BS because the settigns are unchanged ( set to US anyways)... I have heard others around my office say it has happened to them.... so whats up? Any one have any news on this?

Thanks Jack,

I took another look at my settines, and while keyboard was US, the Language was Canadian, then below there was a reference to French and Multilingual.

It is some what contradictory when you look at the various screens, so this is what I have...

Control Panel> Region and language

Region and Language Window
  • - Format Tab > set to English canada
  • - Location Tab > Canada
  • - Key boards and languages Tab> Change Keyboard button (opens next window below)
Text Services and Input languages
  • General Tab > English (Canada) - US
ok here is the where it likely the cause, in this winder the keyboard listed first was US, but it also listed French and Multilingual below that... so here I could also remove those 2 other keyboards (languages).

  • Advanced key Settings TAB
** Ok this is the ultimate section that has probably been doing this to me all along, although none of this still explains why when it happens not every program seems affected, and often changes back when I reopen the program (unless a temporary toggle).....

this section has Hot keys for switching between languages... Left ALT + Shift so it is entirely possible that I have randomly hit those sequences by acident!... I set the combination to NONE just to be safe although since the other ones are now removed there is nothing to switch to.

I think this should solve the problem.
