Solved Change back to "Unknown Application"

I was looking at the content of some .ui file types using the "open with" command and then selecting Notepad. Unfortunately I accidentally had the box ticked to open all files of this type with Notepad from now on.

The files were originally designated as being opened with an "unknown application". I can set these files to be opened by default with any program, but as it is not on the list how do I change it back to open with "unknown application"?

I know it's no big deal and it can stay that way without any problem , but things like that can annoy me at times

Any advice appreciated , thanks.

Hello SFM,

If you like, you can download and merge the .reg file I attached below to unassociate that file extension. It will delete the common registry entries for the file extension to unassociate it. You may need to log off and log on to fully apply.

What application? Many here .UI file types:
Google
Just uncheck the 'open with' (right click) and then "choose from" to open them

Won't work for me (!?)

Brink; I did exactly the same thing only while in the SYSTEM 32 folder.
Tried the 'fix' , opened it, Merged it , clicked yes, then OK, rebooted, and still have the files opening with Wordpad.
Dumb mistake admittedly... but that aside, am I missing something?

Thanks Brink for your usual prompt reply. I was going back to delete my post as I found a system copy and reloaded it. All OK now and I will not be doing that dumb stunt again
I changed the HD that I thought I had my system images on and just located this one. Sorry I did not catch the post in time to delete it.

does it work the same with the .tmp file,

pls, help me as i have changed the default program to hp solution center program.

I have already downloaded the other reg file you uploaded and merged it by changing its name to Default_tmp.reg i can,t find any changes, does this merge has any affect on other files.
