change basic theme color

ok so i disable dwm.exe cuz its a waste but i want a darker color theme then the "basic" one provides..

how can i go about changing this?
please dont give me the color chooser bull since that doesnt work with desktop window manager disabled...
like where are the images stored or where is a place to download other themes that not rely on aero?

Welcome to the Seven Forums
Are you using Windows 7 Basic if so the images are in the aero.msstyle in C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Aero

im using win7 ultimate x64...
only thing in that location is aero.msstyles
is there a program to explore and edit that file?
doesnt seem as if that basic theme uses that file since i can delete it when the basic theme is loaded

and when i open a msstyles file it opens the dialog to edit windows appearance but only when no theme is loaded

If you are using the Windows 7 Basic Theme like I highlighted in red in post #2 the images are in the aero.msstyle in C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Aero

You can use Ave's Windows7 Style Builder or Restorator - Bome Software - Restorator - the resource editor for customization, localization, and translation. to open the aero.msstyle & Photoshop or Gimp, Paint, to edit the images

yea i was able to explore the file
is the baby blue is uses for taskbar and such an image file or just a value?
i would take it image file or else i'd see no reason why the color chooser wouldnt work..
and sorry in last post i left out a word

If you are using the default aero theme I can give you the numbers. If it's a custom theme post a link & I will look at the numbers in it

was looking for a way to change the blue color of the taskbar to something a little darker and possibly the explorer borders...

im curious how editing the aero.msstyles file will change the look since it doesnt even seem to be needed when dmw.exe is disabled

i know it seems like such a little thing. i dont need all the transparency and crap but i would just like a darker color that easier on my eyes and dont understand why they made it where i have to keep a program running just to keep the color darker

i also tried some hack to explorer.exe since technically what i want to mod but none them seemed to work without the desktop window manager running neither.. only changed the start orb

top 844, 1011
bottom 841, 1010,
Left 842, 1012
Right 843, 1013
Explorer #s
top 934, 964, 960, 951,
bottom 940, 968,
left 941, 969
right 942, 970
each has Active & Inactive image for explorer & you have Caption
Small Caption, MinCaption, MaxCaption for the top
& frame, smallframe for left, right, bottom.


The aero.msstyle has both aero & basic build in to it.
Look at the screenshot of Windows Style Builder it shows both

and it seemed to only change the pop up the comes up when system tray icons are hidden and also the buttons on all windows were gone
also it only had any effect with Desktop Window Manager running and everything was still the same with it off

I am sorry you will need it edit more images for the taskbar + the ones I said in the last post.

Bottom- 845, 1028,
Top- 847, 1029,
Left- 848, 1030,
Right- 846, 1031,
Should work I tried it.
