I only used web based email, either Yahoo or HM. I have Office 2010 on my PC, that includes Outlook.

Some mailto links I click on launching Outlook or Windows Live Mail clients- how can I avoid this?

hmm this seems to be solely for IE which I do not use. Chrome Beta.
