Trying to simply enlarge the text a few points in the Mozilla Thunderbird Inbox display window I wound up
changing things in the message- in and message- out windows of the program.

In T-bird the default Inbox display is in Calibri at something like 17 point font. No amount of changing the
drop down numbers shown to increase point size did anything at all.

Please give the steps to make the font size in the display window of Thunderbird larger.
This is a Windows 7 new install and I have not used a mail program with it previously. I don't know if
Win7 settings have to be adjusted to make things work. Resolution is set at 1024 x 720.

Hi:

Not Myself's excellent suggestion is probably the best place to start.

If you are trying to change pane and menu fonts in the TB GUI itself and none of the suggestions in that previous link works, you might be able to do what you want via the UserChrome.css file.
This is explained here:
Thunderbird - Pane and Menu fonts
Caveat: This article has not been updated in a long time; the article Not Myself provided is more current.

I agree with posting at forums.mozillazine.org if you need more help with this issue.
That community of TB power users and script kiddies will likely be able to assist you.
Caveat: I would suggest that you be sure to backup your profile (e.g. with MozBackup or a similar utility) before fiddling around with tweaks and "customizations". Aside from bookmarks, it's not a huge deal to have to recreate a new Firefox profile. Losing one's emails because of TB profile corruption or breakage can be a REAL hassle.

Hope this helps,

bad eyesight

The bad eyesight link looks like it may have a solution. If the options > display > font routine
worked at all it wouldn't be an issue. And on this old XP at very low rez, it's not.

I will go through Mozilla. The jamb with Mozilla is I've never been able to clear a duplicate login with them-- never, since my internet account never changes.

I will report back with any progress.

OK, let us know how it goes.

forums.mozillazine.org is NOT Mozilla and is not in any way affiliated with Mozilla.
It is a user-owned and user-run community, as explained here:
mozillaZine is an independent Mozilla community and advocacy site. We're not affiliated or endorsed by the Mozilla Corporation but we love them just the same.
However, you are probably more likely to get the sort of help you need there, than at the official mozilla support community, as the mozillazine forum is very active.

I will report back with any progress.
Yes, please do.

Thanks,

What do you mean by "Inbox display window?"

If you mean the list of messages - I don't know how to increase the font size. If you mean the font size used as you read messages then it's pretty easy to increase size.

Look - here's an alternative - Pmail. It takes some getting used to if you've never used it before. Here's a screenshot showing "Inbox message list" font size increased and another one showing the font settings window.

List of messages is the font size in the top window in the right pane.

Preview area is the font size of messages in the message display window in the lower pane.

List of folders is font size in the left pane
