Change position of a photo file(s) within a group.
I have a large collection of technical photos to which more are added from time to time.
In Windows XP it was possible to select a file or a number of random files and then move them to a different position within the remaining files in the same Folder. Having done that you could then ‘rename/renumber’ using the normal ‘select all & rename method’.
It would appear that this is not possible with Windows 7.
For example: Folder contains 100 photos numbered 1 to 100.
You wish to relocate 5 photos with current Nos. 9, 21, 32, 57 and 92 into 5 new positions in the Folder so that when all are selected and renumbered they become 12, 15 19 23 and 25 within the renumbered group of 100.
Can anyone provide a method to achieve this please.
Thank you.

I'm sure that I am not fully understanding your question, because if I did the solution would be too obvious.

You have 100 photos, they are in numerical order (you selecedt that they should be in that order) To change the order, you either have to renumber all the pictures (not too practical) or if you want picture 9 to be located after picture 42 just change the name of 9 to 42a or 41a depending how the computer arranges the pictures. If you cannot or do not want to do this, fine. If my answer makes it apparent that I do not understand the situation, please explain your needs again.

Change position of photo files.

It would appear that this function has NOT been included in Windows 7. I have discovered (via Microsoft) that a number of people including IT Specalists have complained about the lack of this feature. Perhaps Windows may - just may:sarc: - issue a patch to reinstate same - hopefully.
However, in the meantime I have discovered that one can perform this function using the 'Batch Rename' withing Paint Shop Pro and this fact may be helpful to others needing the same function.
