Hey all! I was stupid enough while back to make my main partition (C: ) where I installed windows only 50gb big. What I wonder is, is it possible to decrease the second partition in size and move that extra size to the main partition without damaging data on both partitions?

If so, what program would you recommend. Cheers!

Partition Wizard is your answer, check Option Three is this tutorial:

Awesome, thanks! There's no way to do this without boot CD but from an .exe I guess?
Partition Wizard can do almost everything from an EXE, but manipulation of the Windows C-partition to do the kind of operation you want to perform must be done standalone.

Actually, there is an alternative but very similar approach, where you actually pre-queue the operations you want to perform while running the installed EXE under Win7. And then when you push the APPLY button, Partition Wizard will request that you restart Windows to complete the operations. At restart time a standalone PW will kick in, complete the queued operations which could not be performed while Windows was running, and when finally complete will then return to remainder of the normal Windows boot process. So when you're back up and running under Windows, you've accomplished everything you wanted to.

But it's more "comfortable" to simply run in the standalone boot CD environment, and do everything right then and there.

Anyway Partition Wizard is your answer.

You're welcome.

You have to download the ISO and burn it to a CD and not a DVD as the CD works better.

Once you've done that you can boot into it and alter your partition sizes.

If you want a decent image burner, try ImgBurn.

Hello.

As good and reliable a program as Partition Wizard is, I would not trust the installed version for the operation you need, use the boot CD as suggested and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

First download the Partition Wizard Bootable Disk (PWBD) ISO file to the desktop, be sure to get the PWBD and not the installed version; scroll down to see the download link for the Bootable CD ISO file at this link below.
Then use ImgBurn to burn the ISO to a CD, at no greater than 4x speed with a verify; it was designed for use and works best from a CD rather than a DVD; then boot the created CD to make the changes, it doesn't take any input from the user to setup, just relax and let it load.
