Does anyone know if it is possible to change screen resolution by editing a settings file or via the registry or even just by using the commad line.

Is there a certian file somewhere that has the resolution setting in it i could alter.

Hi and welcome.
To answer your question. I sure it is possible but not sure what file .
The other question I have is why don't you let Win7 do it?
Right mouse click on desktop and select Screen Resolution.
Seems simple enough.

Also if the issue is related to your video card or computer please fill in your computer specifications undr your user account.

Changing the resolution via display settings is not an issue, as it works fine.

What i am trying to do is to make a batch file or some sort of script that will reset the resolution then run a program in the new settings. But after having spent the better part of an hour hunting i could not find an answer to my question so i joined this forum and posted my question. i hope that any changes can be made on a system that runs any type of graphics hardware.

I would try and find the answers from your Graphic cards forum. I'm sure it is possible to do but I feel it would be unique to your card and how to change it onthe fly like you want.
Is the program you want to change the resolution in prior to starting something new or old?
Maybe someone else has some suggestions?

There is a program I had found that allows you to change settings based on command lines that are created for the program:

I originally posted in performance and matienace section and not the graphics card section as i wasnt looking for any info on specfic graphics cards. it seemed more of a maintenace issue to me.

Any way thanks for the help but i was really looking to find out how to do it without third party software.

I guess i will just need to keep scouring the internet.

I agree and I had wanted to be able to do this with a command line, but I have had no luck doing so. Only thing I can find is programs that allow a command line structure that is built into the app. I feel this is a good app as is WHS's suggestion. If you dont find it though....at least you know where there are two options now.
