I live in Cyprus and receive TV from satellite through my Windows 7 HTPC using Media Center. I like to watch F1 motor racing but the commentary is in arabic. I can get english commentary through the Internet from the BBC but it simply overlays the arabic so I hear both. Is there any way to switch off the Media Center sound so I only hear what I receive from the internet? I tried the obvious "mute" but it mutes all sound.

Hi, as you are probably aware, the mute button in Windows Media Centre mutes the whole system; to mute just Windows Media Centre you have to:
go to the system tray and click on the volume control button,
click on mixer.
Yhis will bring up all the open applications and what audio they are outputting, just drag the
windows Media centre Slider to the bottom and it's muted :)

There is a nice guide with pictures at Mute Windows 7 Media Center without Muting the Entire Computer | Windows Media Center if that's more helpful to you.

Hi Ian, thanks for the rep, I'm glad I could could help you :) .

As you're new to the forum I just wanted to let you know how you mark threads as solved as well as the uses of the other buttons, if you don't already know how.

To the top right of this post you will see 3 icons. An orange (+), a set of scales and a red and white warning triangle.

The orange (+) or blue (-) denotes whether a user is on or offline (orange = on, blue = off).

The scales are used to give rep points; click this button if someone has helped you significantly or solved your queries (only give this to posts that you think really deserve it).

The red and white warning triangle is used to denote either an abusive post OR to mark a thread as solved (just put solved in the box that comes up and the admins or moderators will mark it solved).

I'll mark it solved for you this time.
