Hello

I have:
  • sda0 - C:\ Windows
  • sda1 - F:\ System-reserved user data (NTUSER.DAT etc)
  • sdb - Unformatted
I want:
  • sda0 - C:\ Windows
  • sdb0 - F:\ System-reserved user data
I get to:
  • sda0 - C:\ Windows
  • sda1 - F:\ System-reserved user data (NTUSER.DAT etc)
  • sdb0 - X:\ Unused User data (NTUSER.DAT etc)

And this on a lot of PC's that have been installed falsely and have been delivered.

The partitioning works like a charm, but I cannot find a way to change drive letters externally. Internally would not work of course, since any user I log in to will have his system-reserved data on drive letter F:\

Does anyone have an idea?

Regards,
Andreas

It seems as if you are correct, to an extent. If you read, carefully, what he says, you would notice that its multiple users, and he would have to change it for all of them, manually. Least, that it is what I understand.

SF is amazing!
Indeed I am trying to change drive letters.
But there is a problem, of course, since i opened this thread.

Step-by-step:
I NEED TO:
  1. Create an NTFS partition on sdb (sdb0)
  2. Copy system relevant and -reserved user data from sda1 (of course mounted in windows as F:\) to sdb0
  3. Rename the drive letters as to have F:\ on sdb0
  4. Delete sda1 and extend sda0 to the whole drive

1st step is no problem.
2nd step is no problem.
3rd step is my question to you, since I am unable to rename it from inside the booted windows (NTUSER.dat etc.) under any circumstances. I must know where and how windows stores the Auto-mount details so I can do all this from a live disc environment.
4th step is no problem.

It's windows 7 btw :p

If you are talking about the reserve partition in Disk Management it does not get a drive letter.

I am talking about a partition created by our SCCM for user data.

What information am I missing that you need?

I want to migrate a partition from one drive to another and am stuck on the problem that there are system-reserved data (NTUSER.dat) in this very partition, so I am unable to do this in windows, or please prove me wrong.
So what I need to know, in case you have no approach to solve this issue from inside the booted windows environment, is where the drive letters are defined inside windows (inside the file system! no GUI!), so I can repartition and rename from a live disc environment.

I just noticed your specs.
You are using Windows Enterprise.
Sorry but I'm not qualified or have the knowledge to work with Enterprise.
Some things that might help others help you.
Filling in your specs completely.

Do you have a I.T. Department to work with you?
I will go back to the ranch and ask for some help from others.

I will just sit back and watch and learn.

We have a ranch!? Why wasn't I informed about this?!

The only way I can think about doing this, is by using a live version of a Linux disc. I'm not too experienced with Enterprise, due to MSDNAA not having it. Most of what I've learned so far is from my teacher, and he's about as reliable as a drunk cat whose high off catnip.

There are a few partition tools out there, that I've used over the course of my blunders, PartitionMagic is one of them. (Download Here). If that doesn't work, I suggest downloading Ubuntu 32bit 13.04, and rocking that out. I'm not sure you can change or move that information, while its in use by a Windows OS.

Layback Bear, it sounds as if he's in a school, office, or government facility. I don't think Microsoft sells single licenses to the average joe.

If you're referring to me, I have about 15 different computers I have access too. We have a server that has every version of XP, Vista, 7 and 8 Available on it, for troubleshooting purposes. That's just my school. :)
