Change the default word processor.

I have Word Pad set as the default and want to change to Word. I tried to print a document and this notice appeared: Wordpad does not support all of the features of the doc's format. Some content may be missing ot displayer improperly.

I checked control panel's Default Programs but Word's not listed.

All help will be appreciated.

Generally the easiest way to do this is right click the file you are trying to open.
Choose properties the click the change button.
You will then need to navigate to word manually.
Since you are on 64 bit it should be located somewhere within the program files (x86) area.
Since I don't have it installed on this machine I can't give you the full path name.

Best is to change it here: Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations. Go to (highlight) the .doc or .docx or whichever filetype you want to change and then go to "Change Program" in the right hand corner. Word should be one of the options. Else click on the "Other Programs" chevron.

I'm very sorry but I mislead you, it was an article on the web and not a file. After checking my notes I discovered my mistake.

I had a similar problem too, the starter version of Office 2010 is what would default and it would not open some files. Following online advice as above, follow through Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations. On my PC “Set Associations” appears as: “Make a file type always open in a specific program” click that and it will set it to Set Associations.

When there, look for the extension of Office Version you wish to set, example, .doc or .docx and select it. After, browse to the folderC:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14 (while in Set Association folder/dialog window) then make all extensions visible by clicking Organize Folder and search options; choose view tab and look for radio (option) button that says; show hidden files. . . and apply/ok. Refresh the folder and look for WINWORD. Select it, and ok all through. You are then good to go.

Repeat the same process with Excel, just the part where you select its extension, browse for Excel, and follow through. Good luck.
