Sometimes when the CD doesn't boot, it starts running from the OS in which case it may not see the drives and offer install to a Windows folder. Make sure CD is booting and not starting from Win7.

More likely you'll need the XP SATA storage controller for your chipset so the CD can see the HD's when booted.

thanx for all the info so far
but the link u provided was for adding drivers to a CD of XP
how can i do it in USB?
even though the iso i used to make USB bootable image said it had the following drivers using Novicorp WinToFlash:
Code:
Intel ICH7R/M, ICH8R/M, ICH9R/M or ICH10R/D S-ATA AHCI and RAID Controllers
Intel ICH8/ICH9 S-ATA AHCI Controllers
Intel ICH6M S-ATA AHCI Controllers
Intel ICH5R S-ATA RAID Controllers
nForce2/3 SataRAID, nForce2/3/4 PataRAID and all nForce4 Intel Edition RAID
nForce4 AMD, nForce 430/410 (MCP51) or nForce 590/570/550 (MCP55)
nForce MCP73 SataRAID
but during boot i get the following image below and don't know what to do?

In that case I would try the second option given. What happens then?

Installing XP from flash is rare since it rarely works, but seems you may have got it goin on.

Was referring to the screen on the XP installer where you choose where to install it, or delete, repartition and format where you want it installed.

It appears from your screenshot you never made it that far but instead got a boot manager for XP installer, from which either of the first two options you might be able to proceed.

The best way to install WinXP is from CD.

First check for all the Win XP drivers for your hardware.
If your Win XP CD, does not support your Sata Controller, you will need to load drivers to uses at F6.
Load Sata Controller drivers with a floppy disk is the best way.

On your driver CD, you will find a folder called ICH9R_IMSM_Makedisk

Also looks to me like selecting the first then second option from the pic you posted is the way to go.

Edit - select first option - then after a while it will reboot from the flash - now you select second option.

That is what the debug options are for.

If you are installing xp to the second partition - default boot.ini won't work

So if you get that error - select the debug option that says partition 2.

If you are installing xp to the third partition - select the debug option that says partition 3.

They are listed in your first screenie.

I am not familiar with xp setup screen ( before my time ) but I would try partition 5 as that seems to be where you copied the files ( says H in your screenshot ).

You will have to go by the partition sizes to be safe.

Good news - well done for persevering.:)

Most of us are not familiar with the method you used ( or XP for that matter ).

Might be useful to others if you could let on what you did to get it working in the end.

I've never seen this screen before during an XP install: http://i53.tinypic.com/28s79dw.jpg

Is it some kind of boot manager added by the flash stick utility, or from earlier XP installers?

Did you ever get the install screen I posted earlier?

I know I've seen this one when converting an installed XP Primary partition to an Extended/Logical while working out one of the System Reserved tutorials.
