Greetings.
Used onboard sound until today where I remounted my Auzentech X-Fi Forte. I have uninstalled the realtek sounddrivers and deactivated the onboard sound in BIOS.
Everything is playing with the default analog speakers (5.1 setup) through the Forte, except systemsound (logon sound, program error, USB connected/disconnected aso). When open controlpanel -> Sound -> change system sounds I can NOT test the selection. They play allright, I think, but not via the Forte soundcard, so no sound i put out. When selecting Windows soundlevels and move the sliders up and down some bizar thing happen. When placing the cursor over the "speaker-slider" and move it, I hear a DING. But when placing the cursor over the systemsound and move it, no sound is generated.
Did you get the latest drivers from the Auzentech site and use those?

If you have an optional PCI Express lane you may want to try that and see if problem continues. Have you contacted support for Auzentach for any idea's?

I can't contact auzentech as they have closed down (look at www.auzentech.com), but I might have found a solution myself.
If I put the soundcard in one of the 16-lanes (for graphics cards!!), then it works, but my graphic card then only have 8 lanes to use (will I ever see the difference?). Putting the soundcard back to a single-lane slot, then the problem is back. Maybe a defect mobo then?
Try very carefully taking a clear paint brush and compressed air and clean the offending lane, even repeated insertions and removals may get it to self clean an align.
