PC sound problems. No system sounds, no audio.

The Troubleshooter and diagnostics have both come up with nothing. That hardware is all up and running fine, but there is no audio. As I mentioned in the OP, I did a install of my OS on a small partition and the audio is working fine. So think it might be time for a drive format and a clean install.

You can delete the old OS and expand the new one into the space. Post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image and we will give you the steps.

Just backing up a little re the sound I see you have Asus Xonar speakers and for the cost of the card why not swap out the THX TruStudio one for an Asus Xonar DG?? I have them in all my desktops and never a problem.
Depending on where you live of course the cost of these are minimal and the GUI for mixing and effects are something else. (I paid $35 for my cards) https://www.asus.com/au/Sound_Cards/Xonar_DG/

Plus I drive 5:1 Logitec Z506 systems from mine and couldn't be happier.
