Hi, I had a linksys wrt54g router and bought a d-link dr-615 wireless router. I had pretty good speeds with the g router and now since I've gone to the n router, I don't automatically connect and yes I've checked that, it takes forever to manually connect and the net is slower then the g was?

Help!

D-Link makes awesome routers. I have the DI-624 rev C.

Update the firmware to latest, from their site.

After, set the router to have TX Rates=Auto, short preamble, Beacon Interval=500 ms, transmit power=100%. If you only have n adapters on the network, set it to n only mode.

Also set the lease time to max allowed.

And that's DIR-615 - here's the latest firmware - http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DIR-615&tab=3.firmware

Update it from a wired computer.

Do you have WPA2 with AES encryption on? Maybe a neighbor is using your bandwidth if not.

Also, check that your driver setting for the adapter in Windows is set to auto-negotiate for link speed. Use the device manager. Right click it. Properties. Advanced tab.

Your roomate connecting at the same time might be causing the speed issue due to varying speed standards in use. Make sure nobody else is connected, then test.

WPA with TKIP is not secure and can be hacked in seconds. Use WPA2 with AES. Set a long, random password too.

If all else fails, look into updating the adapter's driver to latest.

Working much better now but will see how it goes in time. Went to d-link forum and followed "wainbee's" advice on there to set things like so

1. Choose Manual Wireless Setup
2. Disable Wi-Fi Protect
3. Disable Auto Channel Scan - set to CH. 7
4. Set security mode to WPA-Personal
5. Set WPA mode to WPA only
6. Set Cipher to TKIP
Note: no reserved IP addresses, no MAC address filtering or other fancy features employed

Again time will tell.

Well it was only good for a little while then the lags started and one or the other computer disconnecting.

I fixed though buy hooking up the linksys back up and am taking that piece of crap back and getting my money back. Guess time to do some research on a good (on the cheaper side) router that will work with win7 and support both g and n at the same with no issues for either.

When you run a g adapter on the n router, the router will automatically drop to g speeds for all clients. That's how they do.

D-Link makes solid devices.

Too bad about the troubles. I'm running a 615 right now with 7 Pro x64 no issues at all. Both N & G are being used and I can stream digital content easily to a WPS N access point to Xbox 360.

True. Even at g speeds, that's enough to stream a Blu-Ray disc!

Blu-Ray = ~ 20 to 40 mbps
G = 54 mbps in a perfect test environment
G+ = 108 mbps in a perfect test environement

Well no matter what I did one or the other computer will loose connection, lag or not connect at all. So I'm looking for something else. I'm not the only one just look at d-links forum.

Look at any router maker's forum. It's mostly from misconfigurations.

That could be and maybe another d-link router would be good. I can live with the n laptop running at g but not when one or both always has a problem.

Never have had a problem with old router with any issues. Just always works.

I hear that, no doubt.

I'd still try the WPA2 with AES for the heck of it.

Someone else still may have been using the router for their own use.
