Changing antivirus programs

I'm changing my antivirus program from McAfee to Avira. Is it better to uninstall McAfee before downloading Avira, or does it make any difference if I install Avira while McAfee has not as yet been uninstalled.
The reason for this: I don't want two antivirus programs running at the same time.

You are definitely right in that 2 anti virus programs can cause conflicts.

Uninstall McAfee first.

To uninstall McAfee you should go to their website & download their uninstall utility. This is necessary as just using the normal Windows uninstall does not completely remove anti virus programs. They can be hard to remove properly so the uninstall utility is really essential.

Once you have uninstalled McAfee you can then install Avira.
