Changing %appdata%?

My laptop has 8 GB of DDR3 1333 MHz RAM. I was thinking maybe I could create a 1 GB RAM disk and have minecraft store it's saves there to speed up the game. The problem is, how could I change %appdata% to E:/, where the RAM disk is? The disk is automatically saved to the HDD at shutdown and automatically reloaded at startup.

With 8 Gigs of RAM on Win 7 x64, the RAM-disk isn't going to help you at all.

This question, however, is probably best asked in the gaming forum. There are sure to be others there that are more familiar with Minecraft.

I have 8GB RAM on a x64 system and run a 1GB RAMDisk.

I don't know if this setup would help Windows i7 920 for his particular needs or not, but i do know that for what I use it for, it's a great speed booster.
I keep all the User & System Temp files there.
I have all my browser cache files stored there; don't blink or you won't know the page has changed- instant!
When I install programs the extractions take place there- darn near instant!

I wouldn't give up my RAMDisk for anything and on an 8GB system, Windows doesn't miss that 1GB at all.

I have a solution for move %appdata%, Can you tell me how do you create a ramdisk on startup and move it back to hdd on shutdown ?

to your question:

Move the appdata folder to a location you want, then make a junction to this folder with cmd command: "mklink /J "destination" "source".

with a junction folder windows think its a real folder, but the modification only made on the source folder.

Attention, its not how a Hard-Link ! You can delete the junction folder and the files inside will be untouched. But when you delete the source folder, all files will be deleted !
